The 2011 Sir G's Midsummer Classic has a full field and northeastern Minnesota flavor.
Nine teams, all from the Eighth District, will compete in the three-day event that includes 18 games, all but five at Veterans Memorial Field. The remainder are at Legion Field in Soudan.
Duluth Lakeview is the defending champion in a tournament that includes host Ely and fellow Iron Range teams Virginia, Chisholm and Marble. Also making the trek are West Duluth, Cloquet, Brookston and Cook County.
Action begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday with Virginia taking on Cook County, and Ely wraps up the first day of activity at 8 p.m. when it takes on Cloquet. Alex Koschak is scheduled to start on the mound for Post 248.
