Snyder, Ely blank Virginia

Behind the pitching of Wes Snyder, Ely's American Legion baseball team closed out the regular season with an easy win over Virginia.

Avenging a loss from five days, earlier Post 248 scored a 10-0, six-inning triumph as Snyder fired a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

The senior lefty took a no-hitter into the sixth, when Jeremy Paschke singled to center to break up the gem.

Ely (22-6) scored three times in the bottom of the first and pulled away with four runs in the fourth.

Trevor Bernsdorf went two-for-two, scored three times and drove in a run while both Louie Gerzin and Sean Fisher finished with two hits and two runs batted in.

Post 248 is off until Tuesday, when it opens play in the Eighth District Division II Playoffs at Veterans Memorial Field. Ely will take on either Brookston or Cook County in the Veterans Night matchup, set for 7:30 p.m.
