Back-to-back shutouts by Jared Poderzay and Will Gustafson and Riley Bernsdorf's three-run home run were the highlights Monday night as Ely's American Legion baseball team won twice in easy fashion.
Post 248 improved to 11-3 on the summer with a 19-0, 10-0 sweep of overmatched Moose Lake. Both games ended in five innings.
In the opener, Ely erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the third and plated nine more runs in the fourth. Ely had 13 hits, by 12 different players. Trevor Bernsdorf went two-for-four with two runs scored, while Jory Johnson scored four times. Greg Helget drove in three runs.
Poderzay picked up his second pitching win while giving up three hits and recording three strikeouts.
Monday's second game belonged to Riley Bernsdorf, who had three hits in as many at bats, with a towering three-run homer to left in the bottom of the third. The sophomore-to-be finished with five runs batted in.
Gustafson improved to 3-0 on the mound and was in command, holding Moose Lake to three singles.
Ely is off until Thursday, when it visits Chisholm (6 p.m.).
