A 10-run explosion in the top of the third inning sent Ely's American Legion baseball team on to its seventh straight win, an easy 14-0, five-inning decision Wednesday night at Carlton.
Trevor Bernsdorf's bases-clearing double was the highlight as Ely sent 15 batters to the plate in the third. Greg Helget added a two-run single during the frame.
Meanwhile, Bradley Roy recorded his first Legion pitching win and held the hosts to just two hits in four innings. The junior-to-be picked up six strikeouts and Trevor Bernsdorf came on for a scoreless, hitless fifth.
Riley Bernsdorf went three-for-four for Ely (16-3), which improved to 11-1 in Eighth District Division II contests. Jory Johnson singled twice while Helget went two-for-three.
After an off day on Thursday, Ely returns to action Friday night when it takes on St. Paul Arcade-Phalen at 8 p.m. in the opening round of the Sir G's Midsummer Classic.
