The Eighth District Division II American Legion Baseball Tournament starts with four games tonight, including two in Ely that's part of a salute to veterans.
Veterans Night at the ballpark includes a two-game session, starting with number-four seed Chisholm against number-five Esko at 5 p.m., with host and top seed Ely taking on eighth-seeded Brookston at 7:30 p.m.
In between, at approximately 7:20 p.m., all veterans will be invited on to the field for a special ceremony. Veterans and active military personnel are admitted free tonight and will receive a hot dog and beverage.
Two games are also set for Cohasset, with number-three seed Taconite against number-six Carlton at 5 p.m., and second-seeded Deer River meeting number-seven Moose Lake at 7:30. The tournament continues with winners' bracket action Wednesday in Ely, and the event resumes Friday and runs through Sunday.
