Jory Johnson tossed a three-hit shutout and Ely's American Legion baseball team wrapped up the Eighth District Division II regular season title in Thursday's 9-0 win over Carlton.
The senior lefthander never allowed a Carlton runner to reach third base while winning his second straight start.
Ely, now 20-6, got all the runs Johnson would need in the first, when hits by Trevor and Riley Bernsdorf helped create a 3-0 lead. The hosts would add four more runs in the second and two more in the third.
Both Bernsdorfs finished with two hits and three runs batted in. Pat Huisman and Sean Fisher scored two runs apiece for Ely, which hosts Virginia at 7:30 p.m. in Friday's regular season finale.
The district playoffs start July 24 in Ely.
