Viroqua pitcher Mitch Stalsberg danced with disaster Saturday night but escaped with a win.
Behind 15 strikeouts from its ace lefty, the Wisconsin powerhouse edged Ely 8-6 in a matchup of Sir G's Midsummer Classic unbeatens.
The junior-to-be allowed only five Ely hits, but he issued nine walks and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, when the hosts mounted a late rally.
Ely fell to 18-4 on the season and 2-1 in the nine-team tournament, while Viroqua won its third straight Sir G's matchup and is now 28-15.
Trevor Bernsdorf was tagged with the pitching loss for Ely while Will Gustafson tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Nick Mathews had a two-run double for Post 248, which closes out tournament play today against Virginia, starting at 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field.
